Six passengers and a driver are missing after heavily armed men set a lorry on fire at Eledimtu along the Forolle-Turbi Road in Marsabit County.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at 9 p.m. on Monday, August 13, just a few kilometers from the Ethiopian border.
The police stated that the lorry, driven by Ibrahim Jalla, was attacked and set ablaze. However, a minor among the passengers managed to escape and report the incident to the police.
“Ref OB NO. 02/13/08/2024 at 0030hrs. It was reported by Talaso Wato Cmm, a 16-year-old Gabra minor from Dukana, that at approximately 9 p.m while on board a Mitsubishi lorry with registration number KBV 474Y, driven by Ibrahim Jalla, the vehicle was attacked by armed individuals in jungle attire at Eledimtu area along Forolle-Turbi Road, about 25 km east of the station,” the police report details.
Police to Give More Updates on Marsabit Attack
The attackers fired indiscriminately at the lorry, but the minor managed to escape and flee towards Forolle. The minor reported that the attackers set the vehicle on fire and that seven people are still missing.
“She further reported that the lorry was torched by the group. Six other passengers and the driver remain unaccounted for. More updates will follow once the scene is visited,” the report states.
This incident follows the reported disappearance of a police OCS whose Land Cruiser was hijacked by gunmen on Saturday, August 10, in Mandera County.

2024 Attacks
Deputy County Commissioner for Mandera East, Patrick Meso, was attacked, and his driver was killed on the spot.
“I have reports that Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Meso’s Land Cruiser is missing, and his driver was killed during the 3 p.m. incident in Kamor,” said Mandera County Commissioner Henry Ochako in a phone interview.
Earlier, on July 12, four security officers were killed in an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Mandera County.

This followed another suspected Al-Shabaab attack on April 29 in Elwak Town, where ten people were killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
On March 25, two police officers were among three people killed in a terrorist attack in Mandera town.
Police Commissioner Alex Mbuvi Munguti from Mandera Police Station and his counterpart Cyprian Kuta from QRU Arabia died after an explosion at Fish Point Hotel.
