UDA Announces Repeat Elections in Select Counties

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has announced plans for repeat elections in four counties following the initial phase of its polls.

In a statement by the National Elections Board (NEB) on May 1, 2024, Chairman Eng. Anthony Mwaura acknowledged both the success of the first phase and the challenges necessitating a repeat in certain areas.

“After holding a post-mortem evaluation of those elections in the five counties where our party members went to poll, we have come to a conclusion that the exercise was largely successful,” he said.

The elections, conducted on April 26, 2024, included counties such as Homabay, Busia, Narok, West Pokot, and Nairobi, in accordance with UDA party regulations.

Despite voting taking place, logistical obstacles due to heavy rains and isolated incidents of theft and vandalism of electronic voting gadgets were reported in UDA grassroot elections.

“As would be expected with the current torrential rains pounding across the country, it was difficult for us to access some parts of the vast counties, notably West Pokot and Narok,”

Challanges in Accessing UDA Poll Stations

Though we employed sufficient resources to reach as many parts as possible, including two choppers that were on standby to ferry election materials, it still became challenging to access all polling centers in good time,” said Eng. Mwaura.

Furthermore, incidents of theft and vandalism were reported, where electronic voting gadgets were either stolen or damaged.

Eng. Mwaura pointed out that such behavior would not be tolerated, and those responsible would face severe consequences.
