Ugandan Ministry of Health has clarified that travelers departing Uganda do not require an Ebola-free certificate.
Further, the ministry explained that the Ebola-free certificates were not a requirement for visa applications to any country.
“The Ministry of Health informs the general public, travelers, recruitment agencies, travel agents, and stakeholders that travelers departing from Uganda do not require an Ebola-Free Certificate. Such certificates are not a requirement for visa applications to any country,” a press statement from the ministry dated June 15 read.
Members of the public have been warned against fraudsters offering fake Ebola tests and certificates for travel, employment, or visa applications.
Uganda on Ebola Management
According to the Ministry of Health in Uganda, the country is conducting Ebola testing in accordance with national public health guidelines.
However, the ministry emphasized that the Ebola testing is only recommended for individuals showing symptoms consistent with Ebola Virus Disease.
In addition, the Ministry is offering the Ebola testing service to individuals who have been identified as contacts of confirmed Ebola cases.
As the country implements measures to control the Ebola outbreak, the Ministry of Health has advised the public to maintain proper hygiene, avoid contact with suspected cases, and follow health screening procedures.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has assured the citizens that the Ebola outbreak is not a serious problem compared to COVID-19 if managed.
“I want us to solve this little problem of Ebola. Ebola is a very simple disease; it is not like corona, as I said last night. Corona was very dangerous as it was spreading by breathing,” President Yoweri Museveni stated during the National Budget 2026/2027 speech.

Ebola Outbreak Response
Following the Ebola outbreak, African countries including Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, and South Sudan received funding from the United States of America.
Total funding from the United States Department of State is estimated at KSh 28.4 billion.
Further, on June 10, the U.S. Department of State announced an additional KSh 2.6 billion in funding to support national emergency operations centers in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Sudan.

Travel Restrictions
As countries work on preventing further spread of the Ebola virus, some countries, including Kenya, have been temporarily banned from traveling to some countries such as Israel.
Kenya, DRC, Uganda, South Sudan, and Rwanda residents and travelers were not permitted to travel to Israel, according to the Ministry.
According to the Israeli Ministry, travelers who have stayed in the banned countries are at high risk of exposure to disease.
