He further narrated another protest along University Way where police lobbed tear gas into a vehicle they were traveling in with Raila Odinga, saying Raila experienced severe breathing difficulties and required immediate assistance before they managed to escape.
Wetangula said Raila Odinga’s condition was so severe during the incident that he feared he would lose his life.
He confirmed that they were able to respond quickly because there was water in the car, which he used to administer first aid before they managed to escape.
“As we were being dispersed, some excited policemen lobbed a tear gas canister into a vehicle in which Raila and I were. Raila was significantly older than me, and he had serious difficulties breathing. I thought he would lose his life. Luckily, we had some water in the car, and I administered some first aid on him for us to escape,” he recalled.

Wetangula Calls for Legal Reforms to Prevent Future Human Rights Violations
Moses Wetangula said compensation alone is not enough to address human rights violations, arguing that the ultimate goal should be to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
He emphasized the need for a clear legal framework to safeguard citizens and urged institutions involved in drafting laws, including the Interior Ministry and the Attorney General’s office, to prioritize civic education for children as part of long-term reforms.
