Machakos County has public, private, and faith-based healthcare facilities approved under the Social Health Authority (SHA) framework.
Machakos Level 5 Hospital under SHA offers specialized medical care for the residents in the county as a public facility.
In 2025, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti announced the establishment of a level 3 wing at the Machakos Level 5 Hospital, citing the high number of patients.
“We have noted a trend where a high number of patients with minor ailments are flocking the Level 5 hospital, which is essentially a referral facility. To eliminate congestion and also to improve efficiency in delivery of healthcare facilities, my government has taken the bold step to open a Level 3 wing to deal with those cases.” Governor Wavinya Ndeti stated.
According to the SHA-approved hospital listing, accredited private level 5 facilities include the Fork Hospital Kenya and Universal Family Health Services.

Level 4 Hospitals
Level 4 facilities under the SHA framework offer surgery, inpatients, and advanced outpatient services to residents in Machakos.
The facilities include Kathiani Sub-County Hospital and Kangundo Sub-County Hospital, which are public, and Bishop U. J. Kioko Catholic Hospital, a faith-based level-four facility.
Private level 4 facilities include Shalom Hospital, Athi River Shalom Community Hospital, Bristol Park Hospital, RFH Healthcare Syokimau, Syokimau Medical Center, Ultra Kathiani Hospital, Katani Hospital, Reliable Healthcare Services, Sanel Hospital, Plaza Specialist Hospital, The Matuu Hospital, Lifesprings Healthcare, and Veteran Mission Hospitals.
Level 3 Machakos SHA-Approved Facilities
Faith-based SHA-approved medical centers in Machakos include Matuu Mission, Ponacure, Daniel Comboni, PCEA St. Timothy, and Mother Teresa Rodon.
Further, under the health framework, Machakos has approved Public Medical Centers, including Athi River, Mlolongo, Mavoko SNP, Tala, Kalandini, Kimiti Model, Ekalakala, Itunduimuni, Nguluni, Kalama, Mutituni, Kyumbi, Kakuyuni, Kivva, Kithyoko, Muthetheni, and Ndithini.
