Former President Uhuru Kenyatta joined mourners at Ndugamano grounds in Tetu, Nyeri County for the burial service of retired Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police Zachary King’ori Mwangi.
During the burial, the former president pledged to support an educational foundation that was started by king’ori. The foundation was established at Strathmore University to support needy students to continue with their studies.
“And I for one memory of my friend and brother pledge a million shilling into the foundation,” uhuru stated.
He also asked other friends to support the foundation to sustain it despite the death of the founder.
Additionally, President Uhuru promised to pay fees for King’ori’s son who is a continuing student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) until he completes his study.
The retired President also committed to ensuring that son gets a job after completing his studies.
“I will also urge other friends that after he finishes, we ensure we give him a chance at a better life future life so he can continue to lighten his father’s memories,” he said.
King’ori Mwangi died during treatment at Nairobi Hospital on February 11, 2024.

Uhuru eulogizes King’ori
In his speech, Kenyatta mourned the retired Senior Assistant Inspector General Kingori Mwangi, as a man who exhibited great leadership skills, integrity, and dedication to service.
“It isn’t only you as the family who have lost a father, a brother or an uncle. But Kenya also has lost one of its great sons. And we ask that the Lord rests this great and powerful soul in eternal peace and may He give the family comfort,” said Kenyatta.
He acknowledged that his professionalism and dedication to service, adding that his passion made him rise through the ranks in the service.
King’ori joined the Kenya Police Force in 1988 where he worked till his retirement in 2022.

As an officer, he served as a provincial police officer in Nairobi, Mombasa and Western. He also served as the director of operations at police headquarters, police spokesman and the director of Kenya Police Campus in Kiganjo.

He left behind a family of three children and a grandson.
