“Former President Uhuru Kenyatta joined other dignitaries and guests to celebrate the union of Wendy Bochere Okengo and Frankline Kashindi Luseno in Nairobi County. Wendy is the daughter of Dr. Fred Matiang’i, a former Cabinet Secretary who served in Uhuru’s government,” read part of the statement.

The Office of the Fourth President, in a statement said that the two leaders engaged in discussions pertaining to Kenya’s national interest particularly matters that have been raised by citizens as challenges and handicaps to their well-being.

“These included animosity within the political ranks that has created a hostile atmosphere leading to harassment of individuals perceived to be in opposition or hostile to the Government, matters of taxation that have been raised by Kenyans and possible solutions to them, matters of insecurity and best practice in citizen policing and matters of human capital at all levels capable of resolving these challenges,” read part of the statement.

Following the meeting between the two leaders, Uhuru appeared in public yet again when Marc Dillard, the new Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Kenya, and the UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Neil Wigan, separately paid him a courtesy visit at his Gatundu home.

The former President’s office said that his discussions with the envoys focused on the Nairobi Peace Process and regional peace initiatives.

On December 15, Uhuru also appeared in public when he attended the Tripartite Summit on the peace and security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), held in Luanda, Angola.

Matiang’i seen in public after launching Presidential bid

For former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, his daughter’s wedding ceremony was the second public appearance that he has made days after declaring his interest in running for president in 2027.

Back in September, reports emerged that the former CS threw his foot in the race for president in 2027 and hired a Canadian lobbying firm Dickens & Madson on July 29, 2024, to support his bid.

Citizen TV reported that documents revealed that Matiang’i had already paid a down payment of $65,000 (Ksh.8.4 million) at the time of the agreement and is set to pay a retainer of $250,000 (Ksh.32.3 million).

Months after the reports emerged, the former Interior CS sparked buzz and excitement among residents of Kitui on December 20 when he toured the Eastern side of the nation while on his way from Katulani village.

He had gone to condole with the family of his bodyguard Christopher Wambua who passed on in September. Wambua had been Matiangi’s bodyguard for 10 years.

Matiang’i made stop overs in different parts of the county, where he interacted with locals and hawkers along Kitui-Machakos road.
