University of Nairobi (UoN) lecturers have held students’ examination results over salary arrears.
Taking to social media, a parent lamented that her daughter, who is in medical school, completed her fifth year in May 2025.
However, the parent said her daughter cannot proceed to the sixth year since the lecturers have not released the examination results because they have not been paid.
My daughter completed 5th year in May. They were supposed to start 6th year this September, but she says they can’t progress because the lecturers for medical school have refused to release results because they haven’t been paid.
In the statement, the parent questioned why the results have been withheld, yet the students normally clear the school fees before sitting for the exams.
Additionally, the kids are never allowed to sit exams before they have cleared their fees. So I’m wondering why, when lecturers aren’t paid, they punish kids who have paid fees.
Another Facebook user, Kelitu Kaseo, claimed that the lecturers held results for almost all the students.
Kaseo asked the lecturers to release the results, arguing that they do not have anything to do with their salary.
University of Nairobi medical school, please release results for years 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 medical students. You not being paid should not be used to stall the lives of students.

University of Nairobi Students Protest
The incident affects all groups under the Faculty of Health Sciences, which includes the Departments of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Surgery, and Medical Laboratory Sciences.
The students held protests at Kenyatta National Hospital Campus on August 26, regarding the issue.
Secretary General of the University of Nairobi Students Association, Faculty of Health Sciences (UNSA FHS), Mohammed Farah, said the lecturers at the department have not released the results for two months.
Farah said the delay has left students uncertain about whether they will progress, repeat or sit for supplementary exams.

He explained that the situation has also disrupted the students’ plans for the next year, especially those who need transcripts to apply for scholarships and sponsorships.
“This is cruel and oppressive. Our comrades are anxious and frustrated. We have decided to shut down the whole faculty until we get our results,” Farah said.
Farah asked the lecturers to stop using students as a negotiating tool since they paid fees and sat for the exams.
