Motorists have raised concerns about dangerous potholes in Hurlingham and Kilimani, which some say are damaging vehicles.
In a statement on April 25, 2026, journalist Bernard Ndong reported that he hit a pothole at night, causing one of his tires to burst on the Argwings Kodhek Road in Nairobi, between the roundabout and Qwetu hostels, while heading toward Yaya.
“There’s a nasty pothole on Argwings Kodhek Rd between the roundabout & Qwetu heading to Yaya. Last night, my jalopy hit it, and I blew a tire,” read part of the statement.
Ndong said he was lucky to reach a nearby Shell station in Hurlingham, where attendants informed them that at least three other drivers had suffered similar incidents this week, making him the fourth victim.

In a separate incident, another motorist reported that he lost two tires and a rim after hitting a pothole near the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road flyover.
The driver said the incident occurred at night, but noted he was fortunate it happened near a Total petrol station, where he got assistance.
“I lost 2 tires and a rim last night after I hit a pothole near the Ngong road-Naivasha road flyover. Lucky for me, it was near a total petrol station,” another motorist said.

The repeated incidents have sparked concern among road users, with many calling for urgent repairs and better maintenance of Nairobi’s roads to prevent further accidents and costly vehicle damage.
Motorists say the potholes pose a serious safety risk, especially at night when visibility is low.
Journalist Calls Out Nairobi County on Large Potholes in Kilimani
This incident comes days after a viral video shared by Citizen TV journalist Immanuel Ndung’u sparked widespread anger among Nairobi residents, as he documented and measured large potholes along Wood Avenue in Kilimani, highlighting the deteriorating state of the roads in the upscale neighborhood.
In the clip, Ndung’u was seen walking along the road inspecting multiple potholes, some filled with water, while using a measuring tape to assess their depth and length.
“Today, we’re going to be measuring potholes on Wood Avenue in Kilimani……..Pothole number one. Let’s measure it. 9 centimeters of water cover in pothole 1,” said Ndung’u.
He recorded varying measurements, with some potholes reportedly reaching depths of over 15 centimeters and extending several meters in width, which he described as potentially damaging to vehicles.
The video, which was widely circulated on social media, quickly drew reactions from motorists and residents who expressed frustration over the poor condition of roads in Kilimani, an area typically associated with high-end residential and commercial developments.
Many users questioned how such a busy and prominent neighborhood could have neglected its infrastructure, with some calling on the Nairobi County government to intervene and urgently carry out repairs.

However, in his latest update, Ndung’u confirmed that contractors have begun addressing the worst sections of the road.
He confirmed that Fresh tarmac has already been laid over several pothole-ridden areas, offering immediate relief to motorists who had long struggled with the rough terrain.
Ndung’u noted that after speaking with an excavator operator on site, he confirmed that additional improvements are planned, including the installation of a shallow drainage system along one side of the road.
Even more significantly, the contractor indicated that the entire stretch of Wood Avenue could be fully retarmacked within the next few weeks.
