Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has unveiled his dream team months after announcing that he will challenge President William Ruto for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
In a striking poster shared on February 11, 2025, Wajackoyah unveiled his lineup ahead of the 2027 polls, showcasing a mix of political heavyweights and influential figures.
The former presidential candidate, who garnered 61,969 votes in the 2022 polls, made it clear that his vision for leadership includes a balanced and strategic mix of experienced politicians and technocrats.
Wajackoyah revealed his pick for the presidency under his party, the Peoples Party, with himself at the helm.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was named as his running mate for the Deputy President position.
Waiguru is a career civil servant serving her second and final term as governor.
Wajackoyah unveils his ideal team
On the other hand, former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i was selected to serve as Prime Minister—a key position in Wajackoyah’s proposed administration.
Other notable selections in the lineup included Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino as the Speaker of the National Assembly and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah as the Senate Speaker.

Governors George Natembeya and Fatuma Achani were also included, alongside prominent legal figures such as Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo and former Chief Justice David Maraga.
According to Wajackoyah, Natembeya and Odhiambo would be appointed as the Cabinet Secretaries for the Ministries of Interior and National Treasury, respectively, while Achani would serve as Matiang’i’s deputy in the Prime Minister’s office.
Former CJ Maraga on his hand would serve in the Cabinet as the Attorney General.
In his announcement last December, Wajackoyah expressed his frustration over the exclusion of presidential candidates like himself from President Ruto’s so-called “broad-based government,” signaling his resolve to offer an alternative leadership vision for the country in 2027.
“That is why I have come here to announce officially that I’m on the ballot 2027 and I won’t withdraw. I’m running again because I’m bitter. Ruto would have done it better if he had sat with us in the beginning and asked how we can fix these issues,” the former Presidential candidate said.
Broad-based government criticized
Wajackoyah further criticized the broad-based government, saying it constitutes faces that care less about those who agitated for change on the streets during the anti-government protests witnessed in June last year.
According to him, President Ruto incorporated some individuals into the government merely as a stopgap measure to restore stability, and as such, the appointees care less about the welfare of the protesters.
“That’s what Roots Party is opposed to. I was approached with an offer for a ministerial position, but I declined. If you take me today as CS then Parliament rejects me during vetting, will I have gone through?” he posed.

Regarding his presidential ambition, Wajackoyah said he will still vie in 2027 on the manifesto of legalization of bhang arguing that marijuana is a holy plant documented in the scriptures.
Once a street child in Kenya and a grave digger in the UK, the Roots Party leader became a political sensation by running for Kenya’s presidency on a promise to turn the country into a major exporter of marijuana, snake venom and hyenas’ testicles.
Wajackoyah, went on to garner a paltry 61,969 votes which was 0.4 percent of the total votes cast in the 2022 poll.
More Candidates for 2027 Presidential Elections
His December announcement made him join a list of several individual candidates who have unfolded their interest in the presidential seat to dethrone President Ruto.
The list of the 2027 line-up includes the Azimio la Umoja co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka who announced his intention to run for president in the next election, stating that he will not back any other candidate as he has done in previous elections.
Moreover, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah in November last year hinted at vying for the Presidency in 2027 and formed a committee to assess his viability.
Adding to the list of the 2027 candidates who are eying the Presidential seat is the former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, former Minister Martha Karua, and former LSK President Nelson Havi.
