The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a 5-day weather forecast for regions expected to receive rainfall during the period from Friday, August 22, 2025, to Tuesday, August 26, 2025, including the weekend.
In its forecast published on Thursday, August 21, 2025, Kenya Met highlighted that rainfall is expected in several parts of the country, especially in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and northwestern Kenya.
The weatherman also predicts that intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are likely to occur over some parts of the Highlands, east and west of the Rift Valley, the southeastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley.
Strong southerly to south-easterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s), are expected over the Coast (and Kenya’s territorial waters), the southeastern lowlands, northeastern, and northwestern Kenya.
Kenya Met Lists Regions to Expect Rainfall
According to Kenya Met, regions such as the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to have a chance of rain over a few places in the mornings during the forecast period, except on Friday, August 22, and Saturday, August 23, when sunny intervals are expected.
Showers and thunderstorms are anticipated in a few places during the afternoons throughout the forecast period, with light showers expected at night.

Areas within these regions include counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
In the northwestern region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, rains are expected over a few places in the mornings during the forecast period, while afternoons will see showers and thunderstorms over a few places.
On Sunday, August 24, however, sunny intervals are predicted, with a chance of showers over a few places in the afternoon. Light showers are expected at night in this region.
Forecast for Nairobi and Its Environs
In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its environs, Kenya Met predicts that this region will experience cloudy weather breaking into sunny intervals during the mornings of the first three days, with the rest of the days having a chance of rain over a few places.
Afternoons are expected to see showers in a few places, and nights will mainly have a chance of showers over a few places. Counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
The counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, in the northeastern region, are expected to receive rain in a few places in the mornings, except on Saturday, August 23, and Tuesday, August 26, when sunny intervals are predicted. Most nights during the forecast period are expected to be partly cloudy.
In the southeastern lowlands, which include counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County, the weatherman forecasts that these areas will experience cloudy weather breaking into sunny intervals in the mornings during the forecast period, except on Monday, August 25, when there is a chance of rain over a few places.

Sunny intervals are expected in the afternoons, except on Sunday, August 24, and Monday, August 25, when a few places may experience showers. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy, except on Sunday, August 24, when showers over a few places are anticipated.
In the Coast region, which includes counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County, showers over a few places are expected to dominate during the forecast period in the morning, except on Saturday, August 23, when sunny intervals are predicted.
Afternoons will mainly see showers over a few places, with sunny intervals expected on Friday, August 22. Nights are expected to be mostly partly cloudy during the forecast period.
