The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a five-day weather forecast for the period between February 15 and February 19, 2025.

In its forecast, Kenya Met stated that most areas across the country will experience predominantly dry and sunny conditions.

However, the weatherman warned that residents in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley region (including Nairobi) should brace themselves for showers, accompanied by low temperatures of as low as 9°C, for the next five days.

This area also covers Central Kenya counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.

“Isolated rainfall may occur over few places in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Lake Victoria Basin,” said Kenya Met.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley region (including Nairobi), showers are expected on Saturday and Sunday in a few places during the afternoon, while sunny intervals will be experienced on the other days.

Sunny intervals are also expected in the mornings across all areas within this region, as per the advisory, while nights will remain partly cloudy, with a chance of showers on Saturday.

Also, residents in this region will experience minimum temperatures of up to 9°C and maximum of 28°C.

Detailed Kenya Met forecast February 15 – February 19, 2025

The forecast comes after Kenya Met asked Nairobi residents to stay prepared and be mindful of changing weather conditions when issuing a rain advisory earlier in the week.

Motorists were also advised to exercise caution on slippery roads while businesspeople operating in open-air settings were urged to prepare for possible disruptions.

On the other hand, the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley (Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties) are expected to receive showers for at least four days.

Kenya Met has predicted that a few areas will experience showers in the mornings (Monday and Tuesday), while sunny intervals are expected in the rest of the days.

Showers in a few places, especially in the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday, will also occur, while sunny intervals are predicted for the remaining days.

At night, Kenya Met has predicted a chance of showers in a few areas for at least three days, while the nights of Tuesday and Wednesday will remain partly cloudy.

Regions within the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to experience maximum temperatures of 33°C, with minimum temperatures of 10°C.

At the same time, the weather department stated that the rest of the country will continue to experience dry conditions.

Most parts of Kenya to remain dry

Areas within the southeastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, are expected to experience minimum temperatures of 12°C and maximum temperatures of 32°C.

According to Kenya Met, the high temperatures will mostly occur during the mornings and afternoons, which are expected to be covered by sunny intervals, except for Saturday and Sunday, when a chance of showers over a few places is expected (Kilimanjaro region).

Most nights will remain partly cloudy, except for Saturday, when there is a chance of showers in a few places near the Tanzania border.

Maximum daytime temperatures exceeding 33°C, on the other hand, will be experienced in parts of the coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale.

Throughout the period, sunny intervals will be experienced in the mornings and afternoons, except for Sunday afternoon, when a chance of showers in a few places in Kwale has been predicted.

All nights will remain partly cloudy, with minimum temperatures of 20°C.

The northeastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will remain dry, with maximum temperatures of 38°C, especially during the day.

Mornings and afternoons are expected to experience sunny intervals throughout the period, while nights will remain partly cloudy.
