Kenya Met Lists Nairobi & Other Regions To Receive Rains This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a seven-day weather forecast from February 3 to February 10, 2025. The outlook by Kenya Met comes in the wake of reduced rains in various parts of the country. 

According to the Meteorological Department, sunny and dry weather conditions are expected to prevail over most parts of the country.

Occasional rainfall may however be experienced over isolated areas in the southwestern portion of the country.

Average daytime (maximum) temperatures exceeding 30°C are expected over the Coast, North-eastern, North-western regions, South-eastern Lowlands, and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.

On the other hand, average night-time (minimum) temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C in some areas of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and the South-eastern lowlands.

DETAILED REGIONAL RAINFALL FORECAST FOR 4 TO 10 FEBRUARY 2025

Kenya Met’s outlook said that in areas within the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, sunny intervals are expected to prevail during the forecast period.

However, a few areas are likely to experience afternoon showers towards the end of the week while nights are expected to be partly cloudy.

Other counties within the Highlands East of the Rift Valley include Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.

On the other hand, sunny intervals are mainly expected to prevail throughout the week in areas within the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.

This includes the counties of Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok.

A few areas are however likely to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms at the beginning and end of the forecast period.

Nights are expected to be mainly partly cloudy throughout the forecast period.

In the North Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley which covers the counties of Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo and West-Pokot, sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

Other regions

At the same time, Kenya Met said that sunny conditions are expected during the day in Turkana and Samburu Counties while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

In North-eastern Kenya, which covers the counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo, sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

The South-eastern lowlands region covering Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County is on its part expected to experience mainly sunny intervals set to prevail during the day.

However, a few areas are likely to experience afternoon showers towards the end of the forecast period while nights are expected to be partly cloudy.

The Coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties as well as the coastal parts of Tana River are expected to experience daylong sunny intervals.

Kenya Met said that a few areas will experience light morning showers towards the end of the forecast period. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy.

The forecast comes after rainfall was recorded over parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, South Rift Valley, some parts of the Coastal region and the South-eastern lowlands during the week between January 28 to 3 February 2025.

During this period, daytime (maximum) temperatures decreased at most stations, except in Mombasa, Msabaha, Mtwapa, Lodwar, Marsabit, Garissa, Kitui, and Makindu stations, where temperatures increased.

Night-time (minimum) temperatures decreased in Kisii, Suba, Voi, Lamu, Malindi, Msabaha, Mtwapa and Mombasa, among others, while they increased in several other stations.
