Residents of Nairobi and its metropolitan areas can expect an end to the dry weather conditions as the Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts rainfall beginning this evening.
According to the latest advisory, light to moderate showers ranging between 0-20mm are expected within the next 24 hours, with isolated thunderstorms possible in some areas.

The forecast, which covers the period from 9 AM Wednesday, February 12, to 9 AM Thursday, February 13, 2025, shows a shift from the recent hot and dry weather.
However, most parts of the country will remain dry and sunny, with rainfall mainly expected over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the South-Eastern Lowlands, and Nairobi.

In addition, strong winds exceeding 12.5 m/s are expected in Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya, which could lead to dust storms and reduced visibility in affected regions.

Nairobi Residents Asked to Remain Prepared
Although the expected rainfall amounts are not extreme, the department has asked Nairobi residents to stay prepared and be mindful of changing weather conditions.
Motorists should exercise caution on slippery roads, and businesses operating in open-air settings should prepare for possible disruptions.
Nairobians are also encouraged to share weather updates from their areas to help track local variations in rainfall.
Earlier in its weekly forecast, the weatherman provided safety tips for Kenyans through the various weather conditions.
For hot conditions, Kenyans were advised to stay hydrated and avoid excessive sun exposure, wear light, breathable clothing and farmers were advised to monitor soil moisture levels to prevent crop stress.
For cold nights, Kenyans were advised to use warm clothing and bedding to stay warm and keep infants and the elderly well-covered at night.
During strong winds, the weatherman asked Kenyans to secure loose items to prevent them from being blown away, expect dust storms, especially in open areas while motorists were advised to drive carefully in windy and dusty conditions.
