Weatherman Lists Regions to Receive Rains in Last Week of January

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has shared a five-day weather forecast for the period between January 25 to January 29. Kenya Met published the outlook, stating that nearly half of the regions in Kenya will experience sunny and dry weather conditions.  

Sunny and dry conditions are forecasted to prevail in the northern half of the country and the coastal regions.

However, scattered rainfall is possible in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Central and South Rift Valley, and the Southeastern Lowlands. 

Additionally, towards the end of the forecast period, isolated storms may develop in parts of the Rift Valley, Southeastern Lowlands, and Central Highlands.

“Starting this weekend, expect increased rainfall coverage and intensity over the southern half of Kenya, with moderate to heavy rains gradually extending northward during the week,” stated the Weather department. 

At the same time, some parts of Turkana, Marsabit, and Garissa counties will experience strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25knots (12.5 m/s)- according to the forecast.

The Highlands Region Weather Forecast 

According to the weather forecast, the highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley (Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties) will experience similar weather patterns. 

The forecast shows these regions will experience rain over a few areas in the morning, in the afternoon and showers over a few areas at night. 

Residents in this region will experience a maximum temperature of 30°C and a minimum temperature of 13°C. 

However, counties in the highlands East of Rift Valley (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi County) will experience different weather conditions. 

Sunny conditions will be experienced in the morning on the 25th and 26th while rain in a few areas will be experienced in a few areas from the 27th to the 29th of January. 

According to Kenya Met, there will be scattered showers in a few places for the five days in the afternoon and evening in these counties.  

Residents will experience a maximum temperature of 28°C and a minimum temperature of 08°C.

Northwestern Region Forecast 

Residents in Turkana and Samburu Counties will experience sunny weather conditions from morning hours to evening. 

They will also experience a maximum temperature of 30°C and a minimum temperature of 13°C. 

North-eastern Regions 

Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties are to experience sunny weather conditions in the morning. However, some parts of the region are expected to receive rains on January 29. 

In the afternoon, the residents will still experience sunny internals and in the evening, it will be partly cloudy. 

Residents will experience a maximum temperature of 38°C and a minimum temperature of 16°C. 

Taita Taveta Counties and inland parts of Tana River County Regions 

According to the Kenya Met, these areas are to experience sunny intervals in the morning from the 25th to the 26th of January and later experience rain over a few areas from the 27th to the 29th of January. 

In the afternoon and evening, Counties in the region are likely to experience showers over a few areas. 

Residents will experience a maximum temperature of 34°C and a minimum temperature of 15°C.

South-eastern lowlands 

Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, and Kajiado counties will experience sunny intervals in the morning from 25th to the 26th of January and later experience rain over a few areas from the 27th to the 29th of January. 

In the afternoon and evening, the listed counties are likely to experience showers over a few areas. 

Residents will experience a maximum temperature of 34°C and a minimum temperature of 15°C. 

Coastal Region

Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties as well are coastal parts of Tana River, are likely to have the same weather conditions. 

Residents will receive sunny intervals in the morning from 25th to 27th January and later from 28th to 29th January they will experience showers in different places. 

Sunny conditions will be experienced in the afternoon throughout the five days, while in the evening partly cloudy conditions will be experienced.  

Residents will experience a maximum temperature of 35°C and a minimum temperature of 24°C.
