Weatherman Lists Areas to Experience Moderate Rainfall in the Next Five Days

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a weather forecast for the next five days running from, Saturday, February 8, to Wednesday, February 12, 202. In its forecast, the Kenya Met announced that most parts of the country will experience dry and sunny conditions. 

At the same time, the weatherman warned of strong winds, especially in the Northwestern and Northeastern parts.

“Most parts of the country will experience dry and sunny conditions, with rainfall chances mainly confined to southwestern Kenya, central highlands and areas along the Tanzania border,” Kenya Met said.

“Southeasterly winds of 25 knots (12.5 m/s) or higher are expected in the Northwestern and Northeastern regions.”

Kenya Met Lists Regions to Experience Cold Nights of 8°C and 9°C

Average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 8°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley.

These counties are Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties.

These counties, according to the forecast, will experience a mix of cloudy and sunny intervals. Mornings will generally be cloudy with some sunny breaks, while afternoons will see occasional showers over high-ground areas.

Furthermore, nighttime will be partly cloudy, with a chance of light showers on some nights. Temperatures will range between 27°C and 28°C during the day.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will experience nighttime temperatures of below 9 °C.

These counties are Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo-Marakwet.

Others include Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties.

In these counties, sunny intervals are expected during the day, with showers and thunderstorms over a few places during the second and third days of the forecast, and dry conditions are expected during the last two days.

At the same time, average daytime (maximum) temperatures in these regions will range between 30 °C and 31°C.

Counties to Experience strong Winds

The north-western region (Turkana and Samburu Counties) will remain dry, with daytime temperatures reaching 38°C. Nighttime temperatures will range between 12°C and 13°C.

According to the weatherman, counties in the North-eastern region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, will experience sunny intervals throughout the day.

The mornings and afternoons will be clear with sunny periods, while the nights will be partly cloudy.

Temperatures will be high, with maximum temperatures ranging from 37°C to 38°C, and minimum temperatures ranging from 16°C to 17°C. at night.

Meanwhile, the North-eastern region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, will experience sunny intervals throughout the day. The mornings and afternoons will be clear with sunny periods, while the nights will be partly cloudy.

Regions to Remain Dry

The South-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River counties, will experience a mix of cloudy and sunny intervals.

In the mornings, the weather will transition from cloudy to sunny, with a chance of light rain on the last day while showers are expected over a few places, especially near Mt. Kilimanjaro and along the Tanzania border in the afternoons.

Nights will be partly cloudy with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 13°C at night, and daytime temperatures will reach up to 31°C.

Along the coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale counties, and coastal parts of Tana River, mornings will see sunny intervals, with the possibility of light showers over a few places on the last day of the forecast.

The afternoons will remain mostly sunny, and nights will be partly cloudy. Maximum temperatures will range from 31°C to 32°C, with minimum temperatures between 20°C and 22°C.
