A Mombasa court has issued a warrant of arrest against former Malindi Member of Parliament (MP) Aisha Jumwa.
The warrant was issued after Jumwa failed to turn up for a hearing in a case where she is facing corruption charges
Mombasa Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku issued the orders to be effected by police officers after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) applied for the orders .
“Warrant of arrest against the suspect is hereby issued, the court notes that on two occasions the suspect has failed to appear before the court to facilitate the hearing of the matter for trial,” Muuku ruled.
The Chief Magistrate further declined to withdraw the warrant of arrest against Jumwa after her lawyer produced a medical report indicating that she was unwell and unable to attend court.
“I dismiss the application by the defence counsel seeking to have the orders set aside since prosecution in its application has indicated to the court that Jumwa has been spotted on National Television,” the Magistrate noted.
Jumwa is implicated in a Ksh19 million fraud case where she is accused of taking part in unlawful transactions in the Malindi National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The matter will be mentioned on August 23.
