Waweru Guandaru Mathenge is the Director of Legal at Equity Bank Kenya Limited, where he manages legal risks and advises the bank’s Executive Committee and Board.
In 1995, Waweru obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi. Later, in 1996, Waweru completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
He was admitted to the roll of Advocates in 1997.
Besides his legal education, Waweru holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nairobi in 2007.

Previously, from 2019 – 2023, the long-serving banker worked as the Group Company Secretary and Head of Legal at NCBA Group PLC.
From 2016 to 2019, he held the position of Deputy Group Company Secretary & Head of Legal at NIC Bank Kenya PLC.

Between 2014 and 2016, Waweru worked as the Head of Legal & Secretarial Services at Barclays Bank of Kenya Limited.
From 2007 to 2014, Waweru served as the Legal Counsel at Barclays Bank of Kenya.
Other roles held by Waweru include stints as the Company Secretary and Legal Affairs Manager at Uchumi Supermarkets Limited (2005-2007), the Senior Associate at Mathenge & Muchemi Advocates (2000-2005), and the Legal Officer at Trust Bank Limited (1997-1999).
In 1997, he served as an Advocate at the Mathenge & Muchemi Advocates.
