A man has been arrested by Nairobi police for allegedly kidnapping his 8-year-old stepson to extort money from his wife after a domestic disagreement.
The 32-year-old suspect identified as Nemwel Ondari, was arrested on Saturday afternoon at the NMS Green Park matatu terminus some hours after the boy’s mother filed a report at Embakasi police station.
The boy’s mother, Everline Nandera told detectives that she left their home in Embakasi’s Tel Aviv area early morning for Muthurwa market, and when she returned at around 9:20 am, she found her husband and son missing.
“A note had been left behind by the husband, demanding for a ransom of Ksh. 50,000, for the release of the boy. In the note, the man also warned his wife that he would kill the boy using a kitchen knife which he had carried, should she try any monkey business,” police said.
Moreover, police detectives tracked the suspect down to the city bus stage.

It was later established that the couple had an intense argument the previous night and after Everline left on Saturday morning to fend for her family, the man packed his clothes and a kitchen knife in two bags, before taking off with the boy.
Nonetheless, police officers apprehended the suspect at around 4pm as he waited for the ransom to be wired into his Mpesa account.
The suspect is currently held at Embakasi police station awaiting arraignment.
