Unknown people raided Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah’s office on Friday, July 21 night and made away with electronic devices.
While speaking of the incident, the Busia Senator noted that he had reported the matter to the police however, no action has been taken and law enforcement is yet to find any leads.
“I reported the incident on Saturday, July 22, but yet nothing has been done,” he stated
Moreover, the activist said it is unclear whether the raid is linked to his stand on Finance Act 2023 or just a case of ordinary burglars.
“They could be ordinary burglars, but we don’t know the motive so far. We leave it to the police,” he said.
Nonetheless, Omtatah did not reveal the contents of computers and electronic devices that were stolen from his office.

He only revealed that he has been using the devices for various operations
Petition Against Finance Act
Okiya Omtatah has been leading in various litigations touching on human rights and the latest one on the Finance Act, 2023.
Senator Omtatah filed a petition seeking to have the Finance Act 2023 scrapped off saying some of its provisions are illegal.
As such, the implementation of the Act was suspended by the courts, saving Kenyans from tax hikes that would further burden the already burdened taxpayers.
Furthermore, Chief Justice Martha Koome on Thursday, July 18, appointed a three-judge bench to hear and determine the petition on the Finance Act.
Offered Bribe to Drop Finance Act Petition
Conversely, the first-time senator recently stated that he has been offered u to Ksh. 200 million to drop the petition against the Finance Act.
Omtatah said that his response to those attempting to bribe him is to vacate their offices and let those who can govern do so.

“We have to ensure that we abide by the law. They believe everyone has a price. Right now, if you look at the money, I have been offered to withdraw the petition (it) has reached 200 million.” Omtatah stated during his speech at the People’s Anti-Corruption Summit.
But I tell them, my price is one, if you can’t govern, vacate the office for those who can govern,” added Omtatah.
