Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Martha Koome has said 2023 is the year when all courts will attain the strategic target to ensure that no case remains in a trial court for more than three years.
While delivering her new year’s message to Kenyans, the Chief Justice noted that she strives to lead her fellow officers in the courts so as to keep the commitment to have all cases on appeals heard and determined in one year.
CJ Koome also added that they will lay focus on phasing out, case backlog-enabling vocabulary, and actions. This she says they will do by having every case file tracked to ensure matters are not stuck in court at any stage.

Chief Justice Martha Koome stated that the Judiciary’s infrastructural and digitization agenda remains on track.
She further added that the continued roll-out of the Small Claims Courts and the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Courts will facilitate the delivery of justice for vulnerable groups.

According to the CJ, the Judiciary has made major strides toward attaining the goal of building the Judiciary as an independent, efficient, and people-centered institution.
