Residents of Lurambi Constituency, Kakamega County are reeling in shock after a decomposing body was found inside a woman’s house by police officers.
Shamimo Khavere was reportedly living with the maggot-ridden body of his brother for close to a week, to the shock of Lyala villagers.
Area chief Samuel Shilabire who confirmed the shocking news said he received reports from the Woman’s neighbour that there was a foul smell and flies buzzing about from her house.
The chief said upon receiving the news, he contacted local police officers and together they stormed Khavere’s house where they found the decomposing body.
“It is true. We have found a decomposing body whose head is in a bad shape. But what is surprising is that this woman is having her meals in the house saying she is not bothered by the foul smell,” the chief told reporters.
In her defence, Khavere said she did not bother to inform local security agencies about her brother’s decomposing body because he was her god.
“I have stayed with him for one month. He had infections on his legs and I used to wash and attend to him. He told me that he is my god and not my brother,” Khavere told reporters.
Khavere further said she received orders not to open the room where her brother’s body was until Sunday, July 31.
“He came from the hospital and told me that there was no medicine for what was ailing him. I offered him tea but he told me that he didn’t want to eat. He then told me not to open the door where he was sleeping because he was a god,” Khavere said.
Shocked villagers have asked police officers to investigate the matter adding that there is a larger hidden story.
“This woman does not speak to neighbours. Even when we went to her house with the chief, she refused to open the door where the body was. Tomorrow, she might even take our children and stay with them after murdering them,” Judy Khalumi, one of the villagers said.
