Kiptum’s parents cry for help as they mark the first anniversary of their son’s death. In a video, the parents expressed their frustration after the death of Kiptum.
“We are here as the parents of Kiptum one year after his death. We are asking where his hard money went?” they asked.

Further, they stated that the marathoner made his money through sweat, and they have not received the necessary help they need.
Kelvin’s father also said he has been struggling to access his son’s wealth ever since he died.

Commemorating their son’s death, the marathoner’s parents placed flowers beside the grave to beautify it.
Additionally, they mentioned that they lack money to cement and build a shade for his grave.

Further, the burial place remains unattended to without being beautified.
This is not the first time that the parents have appealed for financial help, last year Kiptum’s family asked Kenyans to assist them in managing several issues, citing financial difficulties since their son’s passing.
A Mother’s Plea
The marathoner’s mother inquired about the whereabouts of his grandchildren from her son’s widow.
“I do not know where my grandchildren are, I am pleading to be reunited with my grandchildren,” she said.
According to them, Asenath Rotich left after the burial, hence they do not know about the well-being of their grandchildren.
She pleaded with her daughter-in-law to return home so that she may reunite with the children.

Kiptum’s Death
Kelvin tragically died in a car accident on February 11, 2024, near Kaptagat along with his coach, Gervais Hakizimana.

He was the men’s marathon world record holder. Additionally, held various marathon races including breaking and setting new records.
His legacy has continued to inspire many, especially in long-distance running leaving a void in the world of marathons.
