Catherine Wanjeri Shot During Nakuru Protests
In July 2024, Wanjeri was shot three times while covering anti-government protests in Nakuru, despite wearing a jacket clearly marked “Press.”
The Mediamax journalist later underwent surgery to remove three rubber bullets lodged in her thigh.
Speaking to the media after filing a police report, Wanjeri said she had received a threatening phone call shortly after she returned to Nakuru for a doctor’s appointment.

Wanjeri expressed fears that her life was in danger, prompting her to ignore calls from any new numbers.
She recalled leaving her house that day expecting it to be a routine assignment.
“I left my house at around 1:30 pm thinking that I was going to cover protests and go back home. Little did I know that I would end up in hospital with stitches on my thigh, and I didn’t know what kind of damage those scars were going to do to me,” she said.
