The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a full-day closure of a section of Limuru Road at Aga Khan Primary School on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
In a notice on Friday, May 9, KURA said the closure will last from Sunday midnight (00:00 hrs..) to 23:59 hrs.
This will facilitate the installation of a footbridge deck, a key infrastructure improvement to enhance pedestrian safety in the busy City Park area of Nairobi.
“We wish to notify the general public that the section of Limuru Road at Aga Khan Primary School will be closed from 00.00 Hrs to 23:59 Hrs on Sunday, 11th May 2025,” said KURA Director General Silas Kinoti.
KURA gives reason for the closure
The installation of this footbridge is an investment in pedestrian infrastructure, prioritizing the safety of students, residents, and commuters who frequently use this busy section of Limuru Road.

By providing a secure crossing point, Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) aims to reduce pedestrian-related accidents and improve overall traffic flow, ensuring safer and more efficient movement for all road users in the area.
This closure is expected to significantly disrupt the traffic flow around the City Park, and as a result, KURA have apologised for inconvenience caused as they strive to transform urban mobility.
“We apologize for the inconveniences caused as we strive to Transform Urban Mobility,” noted the DG.
Alternative Routes Suggested
KURA has advised motorists to use alternative routes as indicated in the official traffic management plan and to comply with directions from traffic marshals and police officers deployed to manage the situation.
The official traffic management plan suggests alternative routes during roadworks and closures, including the Embu-Nairobi Highway, Prof. Wangari Maathai Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, and Kolobot Road.
These routes help divert traffic smoothly around affected areas, ensuring connectivity and minimizing congestion, especially during partial closures like the Kipande Road cross culvert installation.

The footbridge installation is part of KURA’s ongoing efforts to improve urban mobility and pedestrian safety across Nairobi’s key roads.
This project complements other road expansion and maintenance initiatives, including the dualling of Limuru Road segments and the connection of Limuru Road to the Northern Bypass, which aim to ease congestion and improve traffic flow in Nairobi’s northern corridors.
Motorists and residents are urged to plan their travel accordingly and expect delays during the closure period.
