The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has issued an advisory to motorists visiting national parks following multiple incidents of vehicles getting stuck due to heavy rains.
In a statement dated December 30, 2025, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) confirmed that Several parks are currently extremely wet, with flash floods making off-road driving particularly hazardous.
“Due to ongoing heavy rains, a number of parks are extremely wet with flash floods. Motorists are strongly advised not to go off-road,” read the KWS statement in part.
KWS Calls for Compliance with Park Regulations
Further, the agency explained that rescue teams are currently overwhelmed by requests from motorists trapped in difficult conditions urging compliance with park regulations to prevent accidents and further strain on rescue operations.
“For your safety and to allow our rangers to focus on wildlife protection, please stick to designated roads at all times,” KWS noted.
In a photo shared by the KWS, The Kenya Times observed flooding at the Nairobi National Park and a vehicle stuck in the mud.

This comes after the heavy rainfall experienced in several parts of the country, causing floods as earlier advised by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Kenya Met updates on Areas to Receive Rain Until First Week of January 2026
Kenya Met has listed regions expected to receive rainfall until first week of January.
According to a statement dated Tuesday, December 30, 2025, Kenya Met has stated that from December 30 to January 5, rains are expected to continue over a few areas at the beginning of the week, mainly in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the North-western and North-eastern regions, the Coastal region, and the South-eastern lowlands.

Isolated thunderstorms and heavy rainfall may occur in these areas. Conditions are then expected to transition to predominantly sunny and dry conditions across much of the country for the remainder of the week.
Hot Conditions: Daytime (maximum) temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya, as well as parts of the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and Western Kenya..
Cool Nights: Night-time (minimum) temperatures below 10°C are expected in parts of the Central Highlands, the North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
