Moi University lecturers have gone on strike despite the management’s assurance that it will engage with the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) leadership.
University Academic Staff Union (UASU) Secretary at the institution, Busola Wegasa, on August 20, declared that the strike would proceed, citing the administration’s failure to honour last year’s return-to-work formula among other grievances.
The lecturers further stated that the following demands must be met before they resume work:
-
Payment of June and July 2025 salaries as per the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement rates.
-
Implementation of the Return-To-Work Formula was signed on November 30, 2024, between UASU and the University Council.
-
Full compliance with clauses on staff review, promotion, and retirement age in the 2021–2025 National Collective Bargaining Agreement.
-
Upholding workers’ fundamental rights and freedoms under Article 41 and Chapter 4 of the Constitution.
