Moi University administration has directed its staff to resume their duties despite not receiving their salaries.
In a statement dated Sunday, March 16, the university’s acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kiplagat Togut, urged the staff to continue discharging their duties as usual while the university works to resolve the salary delay.

“We are all aware of the financial challenges facing the University that have led to a delay in payment of the February 2025 salary. Efforts are being made by the University Management and Council to resolve the issues responsible for the delay,” read the statement.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of staff discharging their duties as usual so that the planned examinations proceed as scheduled.

Further, in line with this, the Vice-Chancellor issued a directive to all Chairs of Departments to ensure that the planned examinations are administered as scheduled.
At the same time, Professor Kiplagat provided an alternative for Moi University staff who had indicated that they could not report to the examination centers due to lack of transport fare.

“Following the concern raised by some members of staff that they lack funds to cater for transport to the workplace, a University bus will be availed on Monday 17th March, 2025 at 7.00 a.m. at the College of Health Science to transport the affected staff to the Main Campus. Preference will be given to staff who are scheduled to invigilate examinations,” said the university’s acting Vice Chancellor.

Furthermore, the university head thanked all staff for their commitment and patience as the University Management and Council work to resolve the salary payment issues.
Moi University’s memo comes at a time when staff have been experiencing salary delays despite changes within the management.
Education CS Makes Changes to Moi University Management
On Thursday, February 13, lecturers at the institution issued a notice announcing that they would begin a strike over delayed salaries.
In a letter signed by Dr. Busolo Wegesa, the Chapter Secretary of the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) at Moi University, lecturers vowed not to report to work starting February 13, 2025, until their January salaries were paid.
“In view of the unexplained delay in the payment of January 2025 salaries, please note that our members will not be able to report to work and/or carry out their duties from tomorrow, 13th February 2025, until payment of salaries is effected,” read the letter.

Elsewhere, on Friday, January 17, 2025, the Ministry of Education made changes to Moi University’s council.
In a gazette notice, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba appointed Professor Noah Midemba as the new Chairperson of the Moi University Council.
Additionally, Ogamba appointed Dr. Mercy Nyambura Kanyara, Professor Ronald Wasike, Anne Weceke Makori, and Dr. Edward Sambili to the Moi University Council, following the revocation of the previous members.
