Journalists have continued their search for career advancement opportunities in 2025 with the latest one being veteran journalist Shisia Wasilwa.
The former KTN journalist at Standard Group Media has secured a new role as a Communication and Marketing Officer at the Open University of Kenya.
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Communication and Marketing Officer at The Open University of Kenya!” he stated.
Following his announcement, several colleagues from the communication and media industry congratulated him on his new role.

Shisia’s career highlights in the media industry
Shisia Wasilwa is a seasoned multimedia journalist and communications professional with over 20 years of experience in the media industry.
Before leaving the Mombasa Road-based company, Wasilwa served as a Program Editor at Standard Group, excelling in content development and editorial management.
His career highlights include working as a correspondent for Deutsche Welle and the BBC, showcasing his expertise in international journalism.

He has also worked with prominent Kenyan media organizations including the Royal Media Services, where he served as a News Editor and Producer, and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
Wasilwa’s excellence in journalism has earned him two nominations for the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA) in the category of Best Radio Production Programs.
Beyond his journalistic work, Shisia is also a renowned author of three Swahili novels:
- Dunia Tambara Bovu, which has been approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development for educational use.
- Makovu ya Uhai, which won the Jomo Kenyatta Literature Award and the Mabati Cornell Kiswahili Prize for Literature.
- Kengeza la Jasiri.
Wasilwa holds a Master of Arts in Digital Journalism from Aga Khan University, a Bachelor of Arts from the Presbyterian University of East Africa, and a Diploma in Mass Communication from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.
He is also a certified media trainer accredited by the Media Council of Kenya. His diverse skill set includes TV production, news editing, anchoring, translation, digital content creation, and public relations.
