Russia has condemned reported airstrikes on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, warning that such attacks could trigger a “catastrophe” in the Middle East.
In a statement on Saturday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the international community should provide an immediate, objective assessment of the strike.
“The international community… must immediately provide an objective and hardline assessment of these irresponsible actions, which pose a real risk of a catastrophe across the Middle East,” said Maria Zakharova.
Natanz has been previously targeted by the United States and Israeli strikes, including earlier in the current conflict and during last June’s escalation.
Russia Urges International Review
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it was looking into the Iranian report that the site had been struck.

In a statement, the agency also called on the International Atomic Energy Agency and the international community to condemn the attack.
“Why don’t the International Atomic Energy Agency and the international community take a clear, firm, and international law-based stance on the attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities and the violation of international obligations and laws?” read part of the statement.
Earlier, the Israeli military said it hit multiple Iranian targets overnight, including a central IRGC compound that produces ballistic missile components.
The military added that a missile production components storage facility, a compound belonging to the Ministry of Defence, and a ballistic missiles components production site were also attacked.
Russia Condemns Missile Strike on Bushehr Nuclear Plant in Iran
Maria Zakharova also condemned a US-Israeli strike near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant, saying the attack landed only metres from an energy unit.
She said Russia has repeatedly warned Israel and the United States against creating threats to the lives of Russian personnel at the site, stressing that such actions are unacceptable.
Zakharova urged both countries to halt attacks on nuclear infrastructure, which create real risks of a radiological and environmental disaster on a regional scale.

The spokesperson called on all parties involved in the conflict to work toward an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation of tensions, adding that continued hostilities could lead to “unprecedented ramifications” for all of the Middle East, including in the nuclear sphere.
Additionally, the head of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom condemned the attack, calling it “a flagrant disregard for the key rules and principles of international security.”
The IAEA said the strike caused no material damage or casualties, but described it as a violation of international legal norms.
