Bajaber followed a traditional Kenyan legal education path and earned his law degree (LLB) from the University of Nairobi, completing his studies between 1984 and 1988.
After his degree, he attended the Kenya School of Law to obtain the mandatory Post-Graduate Diploma in Law for admission to the bar.
He was officially admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1988.

He was appointed as a special counsel for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), where he prosecuted high-profile cases, including one against former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.
Bajaber was nominated by the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) and elected as the Mayor of Mombasa in February 2003, serving until his controversial removal in February 2006, which was later reversed by the Court of Appeal, reinstating him, after ruling that the minister had acted beyond his powers. He was a prominent supporter of the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at the time.

In 1993, Ali Taib was elected the vice chairman of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), deputizing former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
In 2016, the legal practitioner was shortlisted for the position of chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) but did not secure the role.
