Raychelle Omamo is a Kenyan lawyer, diplomat, and former Cabinet Minister.
She is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and served as the Kenyan Foreign Affairs Minister from 2020 to 2022.
Professional Career & Historic Achievements
In 2001, she became the first woman to be elected Chairperson of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), serving until 2003.

Under President Uhuru Kenyatta, she served as the Cabinet Secretary for Defence from 2013 to 2020, becoming the first woman to lead this ministry in Kenya, and subsequently served as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs from January 2020 to October 2022.
She previously served as Kenya’s Ambassador to France, with accreditation to Spain, Portugal, the Holy See, and Serbia, and was the Permanent Representative of Kenya to UNESCO from 2003 to 2009.
Since leaving government, Awuor has focused on consultancy and advisory work through her firm, Mo-Consulty Ltd, specializing in conflict resolution, governance, and public policy.
The law star is active in women’s empowerment initiatives and hosts a podcast called the Power Panel, which documents the stories of African women leaders.
Currently, she serves as the Vice-President of the East African Law Society and is a board member for various organizations, including AMREF Flying Doctors.

Raychelle Awuor Omamo was born on July 6, 1962, in Bondo, Siaya County, and grew up in a prominent family with deep ties to Kenyan politics and public service.
She is the daughter of the late Dr. William Odongo Omamo, a renowned scholar and former Cabinet Minister who served under Presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel arap Moi.
Her family is part of a significant political network as she is a cousin to the Odinga family and an aunt to Fiona Achola Ngobi, the wife of Jomo Kenyatta, son of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The legal scholar earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Law from the University of Kent at Canterbury, United Kingdom, in 1982.
Following her undergraduate studies, she obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law in 1984.
In professional certification, she was admitted to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1986.
In 2016, she obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool.
