George Jalang’o a 29-year-old man has been jailed for 71 years for raping and sodomizing a 29-year-old woman in Ndhiwa Sub-County within Homabay County.
Resident Magistrate B.W. Murangasia on Thursday ruled that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), through prosecution counsel Moses Okerosi proved beyond reasonable doubt that George Jalang’o Odhiambo aged 29 years raped a woman identified as R.A.O.
A statement by the ODPP on November 14, 2024, in their socials revealed that George Jalang’o Odhiambo committed this heinous offence on the 25th of February 2024, at Gaena Village in Lower Kayambo Location within Ndhiwa Sub County Homabay County.
“The prosecution secured a conviction after six witnesses including a government chemist analyst and a clinical officer testified and presented exhibits in the case,” the ODPP statement read in part.
Further, the statement added, “An expert from the Government chemist informed the court that a DNA analysis of the spermatozoa was collected from the complainant and the conclusion was that the samples matched the DNA of the accused person.”
Moreover, the DCI noted that the evidence was further corroborated by a clinical officer who examined the complainant and noted that she had faecal stains in her private parts.
While handling the sentence, the court noted that the offence had a psychological impact and stigma on the complainant and sentenced him to 71 years’ imprisonment.

Kenyans React on Jail Term George Jalang’o
The jail term on George Jalang’o has sparked some reactions. Whereas the act is a crime that requires punishment one of the social media users identified as Njuguna had this to say on the 71 years jail term.
“Rape is bad but 71 years, for a 29-year man for a 29-year victim… I do not know what to think but this looks like a punishment outside the crime committed. 10-20 years would have been enough.”
“In just 5 years the guy will be out, because the judge used emotions and not the Constitution of Kenya. Law Courts are Just Places where the whose and who get what they want, Court of Appeal, High Court, Supreme court is where the guy is headed to squash that 71years,” Tosh Ndungu another social media user criticized the judgement.

Rape and Sodomy Cases
On September 24, media reports reveal four individuals who were arraigned in Shanzu Law Courts in Mombasa County where they were charged with abduction and sodomy.
The individuals charged in connection with the abduction and sodomy of a Mombasa-based blogger on September 12, 2024, include Abdul Athman, Violet Adera, Esther Muthoni, and Haji Babu.
In addition, Hassan and Babu were also charged with gang rape and assault with an intention to cause actual bodily harm.
These cases portray the current reality in our society which need to be dealt with by uprooting the widespread roots of immorality.
