The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of immigration allows for Kenyans to correct errors on their passports.
Errors in passports are usually made during the initial registration process.
They include incorrect spellings of names, incorrect dates of birth, incorrect ID numbers, and incorrect passport photos.
The ministry advises that, upon registration, Kenyans should double-check to avoid inconvenience.
Correcting Errors on a Kenyan Passport
Correcting the details is done through the e-Citizen portal, in the passport application section, and the National Registration Bureau or Civil Registration Services.

If an error is identified on the passport while the application is still being processed and has not yet been printed, you may be able to cancel or withdraw it through your personal e-Citizen account and submit a fresh application
If these primary documents also contain errors, you must correct them first with the correct information. This helps you avoid paying for a full reissue again.
For already issued passports, corrections are done by applying for a change of particulars through the Department of Immigration Services.
Application for Correction Through eCitizen
Once you have confirmed that your documents are accurate, log in to your eCitizen account and start a new passport application.
Follow these steps carefully:
- Log in to the e-Citizen Portal
- Select passport services
- Choose the correction or replacement option
- Fill in the correct personal details
- Upload the required documents
- Pay the applicable fee online
After completing the online application, you will be required to book an appointment at your preferred immigration office.
During the appointment, immigration officers will review your application, verify your documents, and capture your biometrics again.
At the immigration office, you will be required to present documents that justify the correction. These usually include:
- Original passport with the error
- National ID card
- Birth certificate
- Printed eCitizen application form
- Payment receipt
- Two passport-size photos
- Supporting documents such as a marriage certificate, deed poll, or affidavit
If the error involves a name change due to marriage, divorce, or legal declaration, additional documentation may be required.

Requirements for Change of Names
- A duly filled Application Form 19 and 2 payment invoices
- Original applicant’s national identity card and a copy for adults
- Duly filled Consent Form for minors
- Previous passport and a copy
- Payment confirmation
In addition to the above requirements, depending on the category
- Present a written explanation for the change of names addressed to the Passport Control Officer.
- Attach Supportive documents like the deed poll, plus the Kenya gazette notice, and the marriage certificate
Immigration officers will assess your case and confirm whether your application meets the requirements.
After submission, your application will be processed, and a new passport with corrected details will be issued.
Processing time varies depending on workload and verification needs.
Applicants are advised not to book international travel until they receive their corrected passport, as delays may occur.
