President William Ruto on Friday, February 20, hosted leaders of the Methodist Church at State House, where he pledged KSh20 million in support of the church’s activities.
Speaking at the meeting, Ruto stated that the funds are intended to support the smooth and continuous spread of the gospel by the missionaries.
“I encourage you to finish this work, and then we will meet there, and we will do the work of evangelism. In the mission space, I have agreed to support the mission. Those who are missionaries, those who are going to reach God, you will do your part, and I will give them Ksh20 million,” said Ruto.
He also encouraged Kenyans to volunteer and actively support mission work.
“ I would like you to reach God by listening to those who have not heard. Let us support the mission work. It is a very important assignment.”
Methodist Church Visits Ruto at State House
The Methodist Church of Kenya leadership visited the State House to pray with President William Ruto and discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the Church and the government.
According to church officials, the visit was not only spiritual but also strategic, aimed at fostering a long-term partnership in areas of national development.
“We are here as a church, as a partner with the government, and His Excellency has extended his hand of welcome for the Methodist Church in Kenya to partner with this government in matters of development.”

They also raised concerns about outstanding government funds owed to the university as part of its partnership with private institutions, as well as a proposal to support its mission work, community services, and development programs.
“We are here for the matter of our university, the Methodist University, Kenya Methodist University, and one of the things is that as one of the private universities, you know, we the government, and our partnership with the private universities, and we are owed some money and His Excellency has addressed that matter, and we want to thank God for that.”
Beyond development issues, the Church confirmed its commitment to pray for peace, cohesion, and good governance, highlighting that its prayers and moral support for the government would continue.
The church also highlighted its impact in the health sector through the Mauer Methodist Hospital and requested the government’s support to enhance healthcare programs.

However, undeterred by the criticism, the President has always defended his donations, with the congregation cheering in approval.
On March 2, 2025, Ruto promised a KSh20 million donation to the construction of a church for Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu.
Elsewhere, in November, Ruto pledged to donate Ksh100 million to the Africa Inland Church (AIC) Loglogo, Marsabit County.
Ruto further said that the money would cater for the ongoing works within the church. The church needed Ksh17million to be completed.
