Schools have opened today for the first term of the 2023 academic year with a return to the normal academic calendar.
The calendar which was disrupted by Covid-19 for the last two years has now been adjusted to the initial one.
Moreover, the pre-primary, primary and secondary schools will start opening on Monday, January 23 and will close after 13 weeks on April 21.
Likewise, the students are expected to break for half term from June 29 to July 2 and spend their holiday from August 12 to August 27.
The third term will begin on August 28 to November 11 while the December holiday will commence from November 3 to January 2024.
Furthermore, the 2023 KCPE national exams have been set for November 6 to 9 while the KCSE exam starts from November 10 to December 1 for three weeks.

However, parents will now pay full school fees following the move by government to scrap the education subsidy.
Education CS Ezekiel Machogu clarified the move to scrap the subsidy on secondary school fees saying that it was occasioned by a return to normalcy in the school calendar.
“From January 23, we will have three terms the way it used to be before so the fees’ structure remains the same as that of two years ago,” Machogu said in November last year.
The ministry of education had reduced fees by Sh8,500 due to the compressed school calendar which was occasioned by Covid-19.
A circular from the ministry states that parents will have to pay Sh53,554 for national schools, as was before the reduction. This will apply to national and extra county schools.
