Safaricom sends promotional messages and marketing SMS to millions of its subscribers, keeping them updated on new offers, data bundles, and partner deals.
Many users usually find the messages frequent and distracting.
According to Safaricom’s Data Privacy Statement, customers have the right to manage the marketing communications they receive and can opt out at any time.
Safaricom uses its users’ personal information, including phone numbers and service interactions, to contact users with offers and promotions based on their use of its products and services.
The company also states that customers can request to stop receiving marketing messages at any time by adjusting their preferences on the website or by contacting customer support.

How to top Safaricom Promotional Messages
Ananda, a Safaricom user, has asked the telco on X if he can stop the messages since they are annoying to him.
“Nimechoka na these promotional messages from Safaricom. They are so annoying. And when I stop them, they just pause for a few days. How do I stop them forever?”, said Ananda.
Safaricom has clarified that users can stop the messages at an individual level using the USSD Code.

Blocking Specific Numbers
At a device level, phones often allow users to block numbers directly through their messaging app.
This won’t stop Safaricom’s system from sending messages to the inbox, but it prevents notifications and messages from specific sources from being received.
Flash SMS and Spam
Flash notifications also pop up on screen after a call ends, showing details such as airtime or call duration.
These can be turned off by using either the *100# menu or the *456# menu and opting out of “End of Call Notifications
Spam messages from third parties, such as betting firms or commercial advertisers, can be blocked on your phone or reporting through Safaricom to ensure they are removed from promotional lists.
