The widow of slain lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu has shared an emotional message as the family marks one year since his death.
In the message, Anne Mwende Kyalo reflected on the difficult first year without her husband, thanking relatives, friends, colleagues, church members, neighbours and well-wishers for standing with the family through their grief.
Mbobu was shot dead in Nairobi on September 9, 2025, in a drive-by attack along Magadi Road.
His killing remained unresolved as detectives later began examining possible links between his murder and the subsequent killing of clinical psychologist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
Mwende Remembers Husband One Year Later
In the first anniversary message, Mwende described the past year as extremely difficult, saying the family had experienced moments of deep sadness, loneliness and longing for Mbobu’s voice, smile and presence.
She thanked everyone who supported the family during the period, including those who called, sent messages, visited, prayed with them, or offered words of encouragement.

The family said the gestures had provided comfort during some of their hardest moments and helped them feel that they were not alone in their grief.
As they marked the anniversary, the family said it continued to honour Mbobu’s life by holding on to the memories, love and legacy he left behind.
“This past year has been incredibly difficult. There have been moments of deep sadness, loneliness, and longing for his voice, his smile, and his presence. Yet, through the pain, we have found strength and comfort in the love, prayers, kindness, and unwavering support of those who have walked this journey with us,” read the tribute
Mbobu left behind his wife and three children. During his funeral ceremonies in September 2025, Mwende spoke about their 33-year journey together and recalled personal memories of their marriage.
How The Lawyer Was Killed in Nairobi
Mbobu was a prominent advocate, law lecturer and former chairman of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
He was shot while driving along Magadi Road near Brookhouse International School after leaving his office.
According to the DCI, gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
His murder subsequently became one of the high-profile unresolved killings under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
The case took a new turn after the killing of Dr Victoria Mutiso in July 2026.
Detectives investigating Mutiso’s death began examining whether individuals involved in that case could also have links to Mbobu’s murder.
DCI Director Mohamed Amin later said investigators were pursuing leads indicating that some suspects in the Mutiso case might also be connected to the lawyer’s killing.

Mbobu’s Connection to Dr Victoria Mutiso
The connection between the two cases centres on Prof David Musyimi Ndetei, who was Mutiso’s husband.
Mbobu represented Ndetei in a long-running matrimonial-property dispute with his former wife, Rose Mbithe Mulwa.
The dispute dates back more than two decades, involved the ownership and division of property and later featured in Mutiso’s murder investigation.
Mutiso, Ndetei’s second wife, was killed on July 29, 2026, while travelling in a taxi in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area. Investigators said she had been followed before the shooting and were examining similarities between the circumstances of her killing and Mbobu’s assassination.
The DCI has said the investigation is examining whether some of the suspects in Mutiso’s murder were also involved in Mbobu’s killing.
