Rose Mulwa is a Kenyan entrepreneur, politician, and community leader whose work spans healthcare, agribusiness, trade, and real estate.
Raised in Iveti, Machakos County, she began her professional journey in healthcare before transitioning into entrepreneurship and later into politics.
She started her career at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, where she worked in maternal and child healthcare.
The experience shaped her commitment to service and community well-being before moving into the private sector to pursue business opportunities.
Alongside her business interests, she remained active in community empowerment initiatives, supporting mentorship programmes and livelihood projects that equip individuals with skills and opportunities to achieve economic self-reliance.
Her contributions have earned national recognition, including being named among the Independent Kenya Women Awards’ Top 100 Most Impactful Women in Leadership, honouring women making significant contributions to leadership and nation-building.
Rose Mulwa’s Love for Politics
Beyond her career as a medic, Mulwa also ventured into politics. She is the founder and party leader of the Empowerment and Liberation Party (ELP), where she advocates for inclusive governance, greater public participation and increased leadership opportunities for women, youth and other underrepresented groups.
In the 2022 General Election, she vied for the Machakos gubernatorial seat but lost to Wavinya Ndeti.
During the Machakos gubernatorial debate, Mulwa said her decision to run was driven by the challenges she witnessed while interacting with residents across the county.
She argued that despite Machakos’ proximity to Nairobi, many young people remained unemployed and lacked meaningful opportunities because public services were not adequately addressing their needs.
According to Mulwa, her tours across the county exposed her to groups of idle youth, with some already struggling with alcohol abuse, reinforcing her belief that Machakos needed more inclusive leadership that would prioritize young people and create economic opportunities.

She also highlighted the hardships faced by women and children, noting that many mothers were still forced to fetch water in jerrycans, while some pupils attended school without shoes.
Mulwa said these conditions reminded her of hardships from decades past and strengthened her resolve to seek the county’s top seat.
Presidential Aspirations
Mulwa’s political ambitions later expanded to the national stage as she declared her intention to vie for the presidency.
Five months ago, Rose Mulwa announced plans to vie for the presidency not to become Kenya’s first female president, but because she “believed the country needed a head of state who understood the struggles of ordinary Kenyans”.

She described herself as a leader who could provide “safe hands” for Kenyans, stressing that her campaign would focus on addressing citizens’ concerns rather than making empty promises.
According to Rose Mulwa, the country’s biggest challenge was the economy. She argued that many Kenyans were more concerned with finding solutions to the rising cost of living than listening to lengthy political speeches.
She said her presidential bid would centre on restoring hope and improving the livelihoods of Kenyans through practical economic interventions.
Rose Mulwa is the executive Director and Chairperson of the board of Live and Shine Organization.
She also ministers in her church as the head pastor.
Family
Rose Mulwa is divorced. She was married to Professor David Musyimi Ndetei, and the couple divorced in 2001 after having children together.
She has four children, including her son, Chris Mulwa.
