Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has outlined four questions that President William Ruto should answer when he visits the Mount Kenya Region.
Speaking at a church service in Former DP Rigathi Gachagua speaking during a church service at PCEA Naivasha Township, Nakuru County on December 22, 2024, Rigathi advised the President to visit the region as soon as possible as the people from the region have questions they want answered.
“The people from the mountain believed in you and gave you, their votes. When you come, tell them why you betrayed them, why you have despised them, and why you are making them suffer,” stated Rigathi.

“These people who elected you from Mt. Kenya and other regions, when they ask you questions about vaccination, why do you abuse them, and tell them they are possessed when they tell you Kenya is not headed in the right direction,” said the former DP.
He also urged President Ruto to give reasons why he abused religious leaders, calling them unlearned.

“These religious leaders prayed for you and supported you. Come and tell people why you are now saying religious leaders are not educated yet they are the same people who supported you and asked their congregants to vote for you,” asked Rigathi.
He also accused the President of the illicit brew that has been claiming the lives of people in Mt. Kenya, stating that he needs to provide an answer to that effect.
“Come and tell Mt. Kenyans why you are sending poisonous alcohol to kill their children,” questioned the former DP.
More questions for President Ruto
The former DP told the President to tell the people of Mt. Kenya why he has labeled them as tribal, yet they voted for him despite him not being from their political background.

“Your are neither a Kikuyu, Embu,Tharaka or Meru. Now you have joined hands with those who did not want you. Now you have meetings in Kondele, Taita Taveta, where people from this region label people from the Mountain tribal. These people elected you yet they had their own candidate Wahiga Mwaure. That is something you need to come and explain to these people,” said Rigathi
He went on to advise the President to make haste and visit the region, and not to wait for their anger to quel as it is not about to any soon.
Rigathi to announce a way forward in 2025
“President, the questions are more than 100, but for the few ones I have mentioned, prepare yourself. You need to visit the region soon. Do not fear the people’s anger, as it is not about to simmer down. In fact, it is rising by the day,” said the former DP.
Rigathi faulted the President for abandoning projects that were started by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. He criticized him for the affordable housing project terming it a misplaced priority.
“Now you say that you want to build people’s houses. If at all there are no roads, how do you expect people to access these houses. When you come, do not be angry. Come with the same humility you had before you got elected,” questioned Gachagua.
Gachagua ended by saying that he is in talks with various stakeholders and will announce a way forward in January 2025.
