Five top Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) in President William Ruto’s Cabinet have expressed their interest in the 2027 gubernatorial races.
The CSs have positioned themselves to vie for the governor seats across Nakuru, Narok, Murang’a, Nairobi, and Kiambu.
Lee Kinyanjui, Soipan Tuya, Alice Wahome, Rebecca Miano, and William Kabogo are among the prominent cabinet secretaries in Ruto’s administration eyeing governor seats in the upcoming elections.
Lee Kinyanjui
Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry Lee Kinyanjui served as Nakuru governor from 2017 to 2022 before becoming a CS in 2025.
The CS had previously served as a member of parliament for Nakuru Town. In 2022, Kinyanjui lost his bid to defend the Nakuru gubernatorial seat to Susan Kihika.
In September 2024, the former Nakuru governor hinted at a rematch for his seat with Susan Kihika during rallies in Nakuru.
While the governor has been linked to Nakuru politics, the CS clarified in an August 2025 interview that he was focusing on national service, without ruling out his return to the county as governor in 2024.
“As to the issue of vying for the time, I should declare those things will come, but I think right now I have a job which I am very committed to delivering,” Lee Kinyanjui clarified on his 2027 governor seat interest.

Soipan Tuya
Rosalinda Soipan Tuya is currently serving as the Defense CS. She was Narok’s first Woman Representative, serving from 2013 to 2022.
Soipan first expressed interest in the Narok governorship in 2022 but stepped down for party unity.
Currently, Soipan has been endorsed by several Narok groups as the leader meant to unite the county, following her comments during interviews in 2025, in which she declared that politics runs in her blood but service to the public in Narok comes first.
Regional leaders, including Joseph ole Lenku, the current Governor of Kajiado County, have also praised Soipan on occasion.
Her interest in the gubernatorial seat positions her against Patrick Keturet Ole Ntutu, the current governor of Narok.
Alice Wahome
Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development Alice Wahome has been speculated to eye the Murang’a Governor seat.
However, the CS has not made any formal declaration to vie despite public assumption due to her Murang’a tours and UDA involvement.
Alice previously served as an MP for Kandara.

Rebecca Miano
Tourism and Sports CS Rebecca Miano is set to vie for the Nairobi governor seat, currently held by Johnson Sakaja.
At a public event in April this year in Kinodo, UDA supporters chanted in support of Miano’s gubernatorial bid to succeed Sakaja, as she is currently rated the super CS.
“Nairobi’s potential is huge; leadership must deliver inclusivity,” Miano stated during her city tours.
William Kabogo
Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy William Kabogo, who previously served as Kiambu governor from 2013 to 2017, is eyeing the governor’s seat in 2027.
His interest in the seat began in early February, when posts circulated online claiming that the CS and his running mate were running for the governor’s seat, and the public was being asked to comment on whether he should be reelected as governor.
Additionally, in the 2025 Kiambu Daily, a comparison was made of the potential reelection bids for the gubernatorial seat between Kimani Wamatangi and William Kabogo, with Kabogo coming out on top.
