Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said it is Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition that reached out to President William Ruto for a truce concerning the anti-government protests and not the other way round as stated by a section of the opposition team.
Moreover, Gachagua’s remarks came after Azimio leader Raila Odinga while addressing the press on April 4 said it was president Ruto who urged them to suspend their bi-weekly demos.
The deputy president while speaking at the AIPCA Ngarariga Church in Limuru Constituency in Kiambu County on Thursday, April 6 claimed that the Azimio coalition called for a truce after realizing that the protests were a lost cause.
“These people reached out to our President. They said they had reached a dead end and they wanted an escape plan. The President said fine, and he gave them the nod to go and discuss their issues in Parliament,” said the DP.

“The President called us and informed us of his decision, and we said fine. They are now threatening to go back to the streets, but I want to say that we will not allow anyone to destroy any property belonging to Kenyans.” He added.
Likewise, Gachagua slammed Odinga for allegedly making him the subject of conversation during Azimio rallies.
“Mimi sina maneno; mimi asiniingililie nafanya kazi yangu. Hawa watu walinichagua wakaniambia kazi yako ni kulinda na kumchunga William Ruto na nikiona mtu anataka kuharibu serikali yake ninakataa,” said the DP.
He further emphasized that there was no room for a coalition government between President Ruto and Raila Odinga
“Wangojee serikali yao, watafute kura, wakichaguliwa sawa, wasipochaguliwa wakae kwa upinzani.”
Nonetheless, other Kenya Kwanza leaders echoed the deputy president’s remarks, among them Majority Leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah who rubbished the call for talks that mirror the 2008 National Accord dialogue mediated by Koffi Anan by the Azimio leader.
