Fighting in Meru is a Hobby-Moses Kuria

Telling a Meru to stop fighting is interfering with their culture, and I don't want to interfere with your hobby.

Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, has made a striking statement about the current political wrangles in Meru County, terming them as a hobby and part of their culture.

Speaking during the launch of the County Aggregation & Industrial Parks project in the County, Kuria candidly referred to the fighting among the Meru people as a unique aspect of their culture and hobby, emphasizing that he had no intention of meddling in Meru politics.

“To me, fighting among the Ameru is like a hobby, continue with your hobby as development continues.

Telling a Meru to stop fighting is interfering with their culture, and I don’t want to interfere with your hobby,” said the former Gatundu South MP, highlighting the distinctiveness of Meru’s political landscape.

He made it clear that he had left the resolution of these conflicts to the Meru people themselves, but he would not allow development matters to be compromised.

Deputy Rigathi Gachagua’s recent remarks, advocating for Meru politics to be resolved internally, were also acknowledged by the CS.

“The President, his deputy and I continue emphasizing leaving Meru’s political matters in the hands of its people,” the CS said.

Kuria Says Development Will Not Pause for Internal Conflicts

Speaking directly to Governor Kawira, Kuria expressed his concern over the issues that had come to his attention including threats.

He reminded everyone that the world, and particularly development, could not pause indefinitely for internal matters to be resolved, urging a swift resolution to the conflicts.

The CS affirmed his commitment to being at the forefront of the battle against the opposition, Azimio, and highlighted his recent visits to Azimio strongholds like Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, and Kisii, where he had received a warm welcome during the launch of similar projects.

He stressed that the Ministry of Trade’s objective was to promote development in every county, irrespective of their political alignment with the government.

Furthermore, Kuria reaffirmed his decision not to heed the county’s leadership, which had advised postponing the event due to the prevailing political tensions.

“I went to Abdulswamad’s Mombasa, Simba Arati’s Kisii, people who are fighting us with stones and burning tyres.

Then I asked myself, how will I not come to Meru, a county whose people voted for President Ruto?” he posed while highlighting the importance of inclusivity.
