Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has responded to President William Ruto’s statements on the things that led to his impeachment.
In a statement on March 31, Gachagua criticized President Ruto for allegedly lying to the people of Kenya without hesitation.

He also claimed that the President and his team are not coordinating leading to inconsistencies in their statements and exposing their lies.
Besides, he expressed deep concern for Kenya.

“I am now convinced more than ever before, that pathological lying is a mental disorder. The greatest existential threat to our beloved country is outright lying to the people of Kenya without blinking and failure by a leader to put his team together to harmonise their lies. I weep for my Country, Kenya,” he said.
Ruto Accuses Gachagua of Fighting Leaders
In the interview, President Ruto accused Gachagua of clashing with leaders in the Kenya Kwanza government including National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, his PA Farouk Kibet and Dennis Itumbi.

Ruto said the fallout resulted from tensions which started shortly after Kenya Kwanza took over government.
“I asked him, ‘Why are you fighting with Itumbi, my PA Farouk, and these young leaders? What’s the need for such small battles?’” Ruto said.
Impeachment
Ruto explained that his impeachment was a result of his confrontational approach with everyone including the MPs.
He accused Gachagua of asking the MPs to bow for him or risk losing their positions.
As a result, Ruto said the MPs decided to take the first move by impeaching him, adding he had no hand in his ouster.
“The MPs were told that unless they bowed down, they would be sent home. In response, they decided to act first. I did not sign anywhere for him to be removed. The law was followed, and those who removed him did so within the legal framework,” he said.

Ksh10 Billion Demand
Additionally, Ruto revealed that Gachagua demanded Ksh10 billion in order to rally support for him in the Mt. Kenya region.
The President said he refused to give Gachagua the money demand and instead accepted being a one-term President.
“I was told, ‘I can make you a one-term president unless you give me Ksh.10 billion to organize politics in the region.’ I refused. If my fate is to be a one-term president, so be it,” Ruto recounted.

Giving Second Chances
Ruto said he gave Gachagua a chance even when majority of the members of the UDA Party voted against during the selection a running-mate.
“I am a person who believes in giving people a second chance. Even though many leaders did not favour my friend Gachagua, I still gave him a chance. I am a strong believer that when you are friends, you don’t just dismiss friends,” he said.
Similarly, Ruto said he gave Justin Muturi a second chance to serve as the Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) even after it was difficult for him to perform as Attorney General (AG).
“I gave Justin a second chance, but in the process, he dismissed himself. What did you expect me to do?” he asked.
