Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed where he was and why he went silent for seven days, a period in which he missed several state activities.
While attending the burial of his former teacher, Julius Kano on Tuesday May 21, Gachagua stated that he had taken time to pray and fast for the state of the nation.
He added that during that period he had no access to his phone and had instructed his aides not to disturb him. However, he revealed that he emerged from his period of fasting and prayer only to pay his respects to his teacher and mentor upon learning of his passing.
“When Mwalimu passed on, is when I had taken 7 days away for prayers and fasting, meditation and reflection in the heart of Mount Kenya forest. No phone, nothing and nobody could disturb me, I had given clear instructions because I wanted to reflect and meditate about the state of our nation and the welfare of the people of this region,” he said.
“But when Jomo the contractor learnt that Kano had died, he looked for my wife pastor Dorcas and pastor Dorcas knowing my relationship with Mwalimu, sent word that I be interrupted from my prayers and meditation to be informed of his death.”
Gachagua’s Relationship with His Teacher
Gachagua attributed his success to his teacher’s belief in him and the strict discipline that kept him from falling into the wrong crowd.
“When I look at you, you’ve got a good mind, you’re focused, you’re sharp you can be somebody in this country but the path you’re heading down is not right, so I will discipline you,” he narrated how the late teacher told him once.
