Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has said the capital city will lose a lot of revenue if protests continue.
Sakaja while speaking on Tuesday, March 21 during the launch of the second Rapid Results Initiative wave, said Nairobi County collected Sh30.3million in revenue, which is half of the daily target.
He further called for dialogue following the anti-government demonstrations by a section of Azimio supporters which brought business to a standstill in the central business district.
Moreover, Sakaja stated that there is urgent need for a solution to the protests because, if they take place every week as the Azimio leaders had said, a lot of revenue will be lost.
“We collected half of our daily revenue, 30.3 million, due to Azimio protests and we cannot sustain it should it be weekly. We need to have a dialogue on the protests,” he said.
The Nairobi governor further condemned the vandalism that was experienced in the capital city, adding that those caught on camera uprooting infrastructure will be charged.
Nevertheless, opposition leader Raila Odinga, on Monday, March 20 maintained that he will not relent until the government lends him a listening ear.
Mr. Odinga during the protests said Kenyans are suffering and the William Ruto administration has failed to honor its promises.
“We have seen this administration fail to implement even a single promise made to Kenyans. Instead, life has continued to be unbearable. The bloated cabinet will cost the taxpayer millions of shillings annually,” he said while making occasional stops to address his supporters.
