Siaya Governor James Orengo is expected to unveil a new political party to serve as the vehicle for his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 30, Ayika J, a close associate of the governor, said Orengo will launch the LDP, which he described as the vehicle for his presidential bid.
“HE Gov James Orengo will be unveiling his political party. This is the vehicle that shall be used in his Presidential Bid. Mbele Kuzuri,” Ayika said.
LDP: James Orengo’s New Political Vehicle for 2027
The party, whose branding features blue and white colours, is expected to be formally introduced as Orengo steps up his political activities ahead of the next presidential contest.
Details shared by the Office of the Governor indicate that the new outfit will carry the initials LDP, with its visual identity featuring a round hat popularly worn by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s hat, worn by the family’s patriarch and Kenya’s first vice-president, represents the very roots of the family’s political legacy.
It also features a fly whisk attached to the hat. The fly whisk, or “orengo” in the Luo dialect, was a constant feature in Raila Odinga’s public appearances, used to emphasize points, mourn the departed, and rally crowds.
It became synonymous with his authority and his connection to the people.
The branding also carries the slogan “Mbele Kuzuri”, which is expected to form part of the party’s public identity as it begins its political activities.
The unveiling comes as political parties and prospective presidential candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Orengo, a veteran politician and long-serving public figure, has previously held senior positions in government and opposition politics.

Orengo Missing as Linda Mwananchi Retreat Endorses Sifuna for 2027 Presidency
The planned unveiling comes against the backdrop of an emerging leadership question within the Linda Mwananchi movement, where Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been endorsed as the movement’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
Orengo was conspicuously absent from a key Linda Mwananchi leadership retreat that ended with the movement declaring Sifuna its leader and presidential candidate.
The movement also announced plans to unveil the political party through which Sifuna will contest the presidency in early October.
Orengo’s absence came weeks after he publicly challenged any attempt to automatically hand Sifuna the presidential ticket.
The Siaya Governor had previously maintained that competing presidential ambitions within Linda Mwananchi should be subjected to a credible nomination process before the movement settles on one candidate.
In an interview on a local television station this month, Orengo said there was “nothing wrong with competing ambitions” provided the process ultimately produced one opposition candidate.

Orengo’s August Promise to Turn Linda Mwananchi Into a Political Party
The move also comes weeks after Orengo declared that the Linda Mwananchi movement would be transformed into a political party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Kisumu on Thursday, August 13, 2026, Orengo said the movement was being prepared to become a national political vehicle capable of competing for power and carrying forward what he described as the constitutional and reformist ideals associated with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“I want to give my vow before you that Linda Mwananchi is going to transition into a political party. We know the election timelines and I want to tell you we are not going to let you down,” Orengo told supporters.
He said the proposed party would be anchored on the Constitution, the protection of the Bill of Rights and a national, rather than regional, political agenda.
Orengo insisted that Linda Mwananchi would not remain confined to the Luo Nyanza region, saying the movement intends to build a nationwide coalition of Kenyans dissatisfied with the current administration.
“The spirit of Raila Amollo Odinga is in a party known as Linda Mwananchi. That is where the spirit of Raila is,” he said, while defending Raila’s political legacy and describing him as one of the country’s foremost champions of constitutional and democratic reforms.
