Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale has attracted mixed reactions from Kenyans after revealing that he sent money to an individual who had asked for a cup of tea.
According to transaction records, which the vocal lawmaker shared, he sent Ksh.200 to one Anthony Gichane, after reaching out for help.
Further, the documentation showed that the Senator made the transaction on Saturday, September 30 at 5:50 am leaving him with Ksh.51,385.34 as balance.
“RIU94TGLHH Confirmed. Ksh200.00 sent to Antony Gichane 0792*** on 30/9/23 at 5:50 AM. New M-PESA balance is Ksh51,385.34,” read part of the confirmation message from Safaricom.
Earlier on, Gichane had requested Dr Khalwale to buy him a cup of coffee especially now that it is a weekend.
“Good morning, Senator Boni, today being a weekend, I’ll be very glad if you buy me a cup of coffee 0792***. Thanks in advance bwana Senator,” asked Gichane.
In his response to the Ksh.200, Gichane thanked Senator Khalwale adding he should even get more in future.
Khalwale Post Reactions
Replying to the post, Fredy Maina on X criticized Gichane stating that people are begging too much.
Further, Isaka United asked the senator to style up stating that he could have done the same without posting a confirmation message.
Additionally, some users felt that the senator could have sent Gichane more money especially with such a huge balance on his account.
“Senator, with an Mpesa balance of Ksh.51,000 you only sent this guy Ksh.200. He simply used good language to say he’s broke. You should have sent even Ksh.20,000,” said Sasia Fredrick.

“Ksh.200 Bob from someone who has been in parliament for more than two decades and with 51,835 balance on the account. Kenyan politicians do not have respect,” added Moseka.
However, others praised Senator Khalwale for taking time to reply to such a humble request.
“Doctor, you have a big heart, somebody asks for a cup of coffee, but you send him Ksh200, how expensive is that coffee, but lucky you,” said Peter Kariuki.
Others also hilariously replied with their mobile numbers asking for coffee as well.
