Malala Shuts Down Rumors About MP’s Death

Former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has dismissed rumors about the death of Malava Member of Parliament (MP) Malulu Ijendi.

In a statement on January 21, Malala said the MP was on dialysis in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at ICU Agha Khan Hospital, Nairobi.

Malala confirmed that the MP is under medical care and showing positive signs of recovery, urging continued prayers for him.

“The Member for Malava Constituency (Malulu Ijendi) is currently in the ICU, on dialysis and fighting strong. The medical team is attending to him and he’s responding. Keep him in your prayers,” Malala said.

Malala refuted the death reports, confirming that Ijendi is alive and with his family at the hospital.

“We are with his family at the Hospital and as at 2302hrs our brother is still alive, fighting for his life at the ICU Agha Khan Hospital, Nairobi. Ignore any rumors going round,” he said.

Injendi has represented Malava Constituency in the National Assembly since 2013. 

Malulu Ijendi Career

He won the seat in 2013 on a Maendeleo Democratic Party (MDP) ticket.

He defended his seat successfully in 2017 under the Jubilee Party and retained his position in the 2022 general elections on an Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket.

Between 2013 and 2017, he was a member of the Senate and National Assembly Cohesion Joint Committee and the Education Committee.

From 2017 to 2022, he was a member of the following committees: Regional Integration, Labour and Transport.

Injendi also served as a member of the Education Committee in the 12th Parliament.

He was a chair of the Sub-Committee University Education.

Prior to his political career, he served as a lecturer at the Catholic University of East Africa.

He founded the Malulu Injendi Foundation, a non-governmental organization that supports various community initiatives.

Education

Injendi attended Lugusi Primary School between 1974 and 1981 where he sat Class 7: CPE.

He later attended St. Ignatius Mukumu Boys for his O-Levels from 1982 to 1985 before joining St. Peter Boys High Schook in Mumias for A Levels.

The MP holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics and Sociology) from Egerton University and a Master of Arts (Sociology0 from the University of Nairobi (UoN).
