Kuria Reveals Motives Behind Raila’s AUC Bid
Nevertheless, CS Moses Kuria had earlier stirred controversy with claims regarding the motives behind ODM leader Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
According to Kuria, Odinga’s pursuit of the AU position is merely a strategic move to buy time for his anticipated presidential bid in 2027.
Kuria made these assertions during an interview on Spice FM, asserting that Odinga would resign from the AU Commission after two years to focus on his political aspirations.
“People who’ve got no grasp of history think that Baba is going anywhere. Baba is coming back. He will do two years. He is going to call it short and maybe give it to another East African to finish for him, maybe Jakaya Kikwete, as he takes care of some urgent business,” Kuria said then.
Despite these claims, Kuria also expressed his support for Odinga’s AU Commission bid, pointing out the potential benefits for Kenya if Odinga were to secure the position.
“We do not have any issues with anyone, as a matter of fact I support my good friend Raila Odinga and I pray that he gets the AU chairperson Job,” he added.

Odinga’s interest in the AUC chairperson role was confirmed earlier at the beginning of this year as he initiated lobbying efforts among African leaders to support his candidacy.
Following a meeting with former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo in Nairobi, Odinga expressed his readiness to take on the challenge and offer himself for service.
“I am ready to take on this challenge and offer myself for service. I have requested my friend, former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, to continue advocating for my candidacy and engage with other leaders,” Odinga remarked.
